Still finding my fins.

Hello internet! How have you been…? It has been a week since my last post… 😛

I’ve been pretty much between “Meh” and “Ermph” on the motivation scale, so decided to keep my thoughts to myself until something useful turns up. Bad weather, bad news, illness. Generally murky water – best to simply keep on swimming really, so I am sorry for the delay in… whatever these posts are? To my millions (yeah right) handful of followers, I am sorry for swimming in silence. Just wasn’t quite sure of how to politely say “I’m off to binge watch TV and play video games until my brain is safe to play with again” hehe.

So, did you miss me? (Did you notice I was gone?) Is a weeklong absence normal in this sort of place? Still finding my fins here – still pondering the post schedule shenanigans. How often do you want to know what my thoughts are? As always, feedback would be helpful!

In any case, since the day is late and I am still changing my brain filter, cleaning out my think tank, and generally swimming in circles. I will try to post something actually interesting soon. Sorry again, and I hope you understand the silence?

– Madfish Mike, swimming on! 🙂

Snow problem.

You know in the UK, we have a serious issue with snow.

No, nothing to do with the amount (or frequency) that we have. I’m talking about our panic response to the soft water flakes that simply obliterates everyday life… or so we believe.

Shops everywhere will “Braces” themselves, for bread and milk simply vanish pasteurize. Eggs will scramble off the shelves, and the absolute essentials of chocolate and alcohol will suddenly seem like pure gold. Utter pandemonia – and don’t you dare think about driving!

You cannot possibly comprehend the amount of traction lost due to “black ice”, and stopping distances will increase by several miles. Traffic speeds will be reduced to a maximum of around 12 to 30 miles per hour, if you can even get your vehicle through the street at all. Schools everywhere will fight the urge to bring joy to children by way of “Snow Day”, and employers will battle wrongful termination issues because there was absolutely no way they should have expected Brenda from accounts to have travelled fifteen miles…

So this brings me to two issues. Firstly, why does most of the UK treat snow as the bringer of influenza, pestilance and death? Think about Alaska, Russia, or pretty much anywhere in the world that has to deal with snow more than four times a year. How much snow do they get settled for over a week? Now compare that to the UK’s approximate two feet of snow that lasts about 8-30 hours. All a bit mad really, and that’s coming from a hairy mountain man using the alias of a fish to talk to himself over the internet…

Secondly, think of the major crisis that the UK government has every year, when they simply could not possibly have forseen that we would be getting a cold front. Our reserves of grit will be at an all time low, as we strive to import vast quantities of grit to administer to the main roads… and then think how quickly we run out of bread, milk, alcohol, etc.

One simple question really. Why does nobody panic buy bulk quantities of Salt?

I don’t mean to suddenly fill up on potato fries, however tasty they might be. I am talking the anti-snow weapon used to clear roadways – simple salt. Okay, so gritting salt is not quite the same consistency as table or rock salt, but it would work to clear the way. You could even, as recommended to me by a stranger on the internet, use “Urea Pellets” – a type of fertiliser. It seems to me that the logical thing to horde in our dire weather emergency would be something that could actually be used to help rather than simply outlast.

Of course, personally I would rather just build a snowman, slide down a hill on my backside and generally just have fun. But then that would bring pneumonia and certain death… 😉

By any other name…?

If it sits in a pond, has feathers, moves in a straight line and is known for saying “Quack”, is it a necessarily a Duck? Could it be just a very confused parrot… or a bilingual budgie?

You may or may not know about the speedwritten teaser created five months ago. Today I embarked on a journey of realisation that maybe the absence of description is the solution to my problem. After a lot of investigation, I found myself at a company’s contact page only to realise that they did not own the copyright to a product and that my search was not yet over. At that point, I re-examined my written draft and realised that it could all be avoided if I were to simply listen to what everyone else already suggested... Drop the names!

So basically, to cut a long ramble short. I plan to continue with a story that I have been internally struggling with due to copyright concerns, as hopefully the power of suggestion will supersede the need to actually describe the character in question… I know this post is considerably shorter than my previous, I am simply turning my words elsewhere. 😉

Day Three – Ramble Continued.

Ever feel like there are two layers of your mind – the one you’re living in and the one that you are? No, I am not talking subconscience. Erm, I had better analagy this one. Feel free to skip below the block quote any time that your head hurts or I stop making sense!

You are you. You are in a room. (If you’re outside, pretend that you’re in a room :P) You are currently  reading this post. While you are reading this post, imagine there is another you inside yourself, looking through your eyes. That you was reading this post, now it is busy creating an image of itself being you within your eyes, and in turn having its own it inside their own eyes since they don’t know that they are not in fact you.

You follow all that? Good!

So supposing that the you within yourself is now trying to wrap itself around the notion that it may be a figment of its own imagination – who is continuing to read this post? Well, that is where we get complicated. That would be the external you, still reading via its subconscience mind, while the controller (internal you) reacts to everything it just passively read…

Now if anyone actually followed that, then congratulations, you’re one step closer to understanding me. If not, well I guess that would mean you are still pretty normal.

(Still Day Three – Still Rambling…)

So! Back to the actual topic that I was going to do earlier, that my inside mind put down and lost along the way. What with staring at the QR codes, staring at Facebook, reading…

Ah! The 2016 Recap. Well, my plan of action is to create a rather lengthy post about each of the events of 2016, with their own collection of pictures and so on. I figure that it might be a bit hectic around here with each of these posts, considering I will also be posting random rambles such as this. So to make things a little easier overall I will create a sort of hub you can get to from one main blog post, that I will then talk about when all is said and done.

I know that it is still early days and that I am for the most part talking to myself at the moment, but just in case I suddenly have a whole bunch of people wanting to follow me then they don’t suddenly have a massive spam of update emails. I’m under the impression that creating them as “pages” instead of “posts” will stop that from happening. Hopefully. (I don’t really know where I am going at the best of times, so the term ‘follow’ is totally inaccurate! Just to point that out.) If you miss anything along the way, remember that there is an Archive that is going to have a somewhat straightforward (ish) chronological walkthrough of the order of these blog posts. I try to update that at the end of each day, so while it may be incomplete at times, it should theoretically only be about 12 hours behind.

As always, anything anyone out there wants to say is more than welcome. I’m still testing the water with what to actually do around here, for now I am pretty much throwing words at the world and hoping that something useful makes it through. Which reminds me, I should continue writing my books. With luck I will have some literary thought strands to weave soon. Hoping to continue one of my many story starts into something greater… For now, I will turn the rambling writs over to the inward self and the subconscienceness.

Madfish Mike, wandering off. 🙂

Day Two, still much to do…

While the words created weave unto a world we do not know, the darkness stretches far throughout the words you see below. Please excuse the greyness of the walls and words so bleak. I aim to fix the fixtures and the style of things are being tweaked. Until then if you could, then simply bear with me. I’ll surely soon be brightening the place for all to see. The bareness of the wordpress is surely quite a mess, and I hope that you may stick around to see me at my best. (Whatever that is…) – Madfish, 8th January 2016.

Mad Fish Rambles, The First Post

A lot can happen in a year. My inner bookworm awoke from its long hibernation, I travelled further from my hometown than ever before, and some people became addicted to my brainfish… Wait, I might have gone too far already.

Sorry, this blog should come with a warning. Hyperactive scatterbrain in progress! I should secondly remember to include a running glossary of sorts. And yes, I intend to use some (or all) of these words in literary works, and thereby imply all copyright and reservations of this blog, social media, or otherwise as my own creation. Just to get that out there, though it probably didn’t need to be said. But, as always, I digress… Continue reading “Mad Fish Rambles, The First Post”
